The envelope is heavier than it looks. As you shake the envelope out, you see a small book...



As you flip through the pages, it is packed full of all manner of strange writings. Personal anecdotes, diagrams, excerpts from encyclopedias and short stories. You cannot imagine what ties these writings together, how your granfather came into possession of it, or what importance he saw inside it. Tucked into the back cover is a handwritten note.
Why would your grandfather leave you this?


Stranger still, an unusual mechanical device slides out of the envelope.



The metal is cold in your hands. The contradictory device simultaneously gives the impression of being centuries old, but also from the future. While dusty and dim, there's not a hint of rust on it anywhere, as if it's been carefully preserved by it's previous owner.
